If a page on your website does not load, an error message shall be shown to the visitor. Because there are different errors, there are different pages which will display, but what is typical for all of them is that they are generic and almost certainly shall have absolutely nothing that is similar to the layout of your Internet site, which can be frustrating for any visitor. This is the main reason why hosting companies have introduced a feature known as Custom Error Pages. For a variety of different errors, website visitors shall see your custom made content, which could be informative or amusing, based on your taste, and that will match the overall design of your site, so the pages shall not look like they aren't part of your website at all. You may use this option for many errors - 400 (Bad request), 401 (Unauthorized), 403 (Forbidden) and 404 (File not Found).
Custom Error Pages in Shared Hosting
The customized error pages function is offered with every shared hosting package we offer and you will be able to swap all of the generic pages with your own with no more than a couple of clicks in your Hepsia website hosting CP. You'll need to produce the actual files and to upload them to your account, and then to set them for a given domain or subdomain using the Hosted Domains section of the Hepsia Control Panel. You can do this for every single site hosted in the account individually, so that each set of custom made pages will have identical style and design as the website it's part of. If necessary, you can always revert back to a default page from our system or to the default Apache server page. Another way to set custom error pages is to create an .htaccess file in the domain/subdomain root folder and to add a few lines in it. If you have not done this before, you may simply copy the needed code from our Help article about this.
Custom Error Pages in Semi-dedicated Servers
All semi-dedicated plans which we provide support custom error pages and it will not take more than a couple of mouse clicks from your Hepsia website hosting Control Panel to use this functionality. The option is included in the Hosted Domains section of your CP in which you'll have to type in the links to the custom-made files using simple drop-down menus and a time and effort saving interface. Keep in mind, you should upload them in your account before that. In case you do not want to use this feature at some point, you can easily disable it just as fast and choose an Apache server page or a default page from our system to be shown if your visitors encounter an error. If you'd prefer, you may also use an .htaccess file to permit the personalized error pages. The file should include a particular line of code and a link for each error type and you can find an example of the entire content for all four error types in our Help section.
